Top Five Looks at the Met Gala 2023
On May 1st, the annual Met Gala was held with the theme for 2023 as ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’. The theme was made in memory of the record breaking designer who recently passed away in 2019. This year’s looks were very different from previous years, showcasing more classy and simple designs.
Out of all of the celebrities who walked the red carpet last week, five looks stood out as the most unique, interesting, and beautiful.
Rihanna
Arriving fashionably late with A$AP Rocky, Rihanna dazzled in a stunning wedding themed dress. The Valentino dress had a long, elegant train and included a flower adorned cape that covered the dress, which when taken off revealed a tight v-neck dress that showcased her cute baby bump.
“Each of these flowers took 30 hours. 30 hours. Each flower,” said Rihanna about the intricately made flowers on the cape
Other accessories of the outfit included white sunglasses adorned with false eyelashes, dramatic tiered silver necklaces, and bold flower earrings.
The subtle beauty of this dress makes it one of the best looks in the Met Gala. It isn’t too over the top, but it still draws the attention of everyone on the carpet.
Anne Hathaway
Anne Hathaway showed up in a strapless white tweed gown that hugged her curves. The dress had slits down the center and sides of her bodice, which were held together with gold safety pins bejeweled with pearls and gold beads.
The dress itself is relatively simple, but the added flair of the pins and the flowers on the chest make the look unlike something ever seen before. Her voluminous hair and the silver choker pulls the whole look together.
Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner’s red dress was the center of the spotlight at the Met Gala. She was one of the only people to wear red that night, which made her stand out so much among everyone else. The scooping neckline is very unique and shows off Kylie’s gorgeous collarbone, and the color combo of bright red and electric blue make this look really pop.
A fun detail of this dress is that the train had sleeve holes, allowing it to double as a jacket.
Dua Lipa
This is one of the many bridal style dresses seen at the Met Gala, following the theme of Karl Lagerfeld’s specialization of wedding dresses. This white tweed ball gown emulated a 19th century dress with the corset top and big skirt. The simplicity of this dress is absolutely stunning, allowing the focus to be held on the Tiffany & Co. diamond necklace that she wears, which is rumored to be about 10 million dollars.
“Lipa became the first star to wear Tiffany & Co.’s new Legendary diamond, which is set on the label’s Lucida Star necklace. The white Legendary diamond is over 100 carats,” wrote Vogue magazine.
Emma Chamberlain
Emma Chamberlain was not given enough credit for her look at the Met. She represented Miu Miu with this light blue two piece look. She pulls off the classy long skirt and button up top seamlessly. This look is very different from every other look seen on the carpet that night but not in a bad way. The piece is fun to look at and has multiple parts that add on to the dynamic. The sparkly undershirt, the matching headband, the smokey eye look all bring it together.
