A Matchup For The Ages
The NFL season culminated last Sunday with one of the best Super Bowl matchups the sport of football has ever seen.
For the first time ever, the Super Bowl was played in the home stadium of one of the teams competing. It was held in Tampa Bay, home of the Buccaneers, at Raymond James Stadium. This added intriguing value to an already great matchup.
The Kansas City Chiefs came into the game as slight favorites over their opponents, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This matchup pinned two of the league’s greatest quarterbacks against each other, the young buck, Patrick Mahomes, and the veteran, Tom Brady. Brady got the best of Mahomes with a 31-9 victory over the Chiefs.
This matchup was so compelling to football fans because Mahomes is widely considered the best quarterback in the league, while Brady is considered the greatest of all time. The generational matchup between quarterbacks was in the spotlight in the week leading up to the game.
Brady has not hesitated to complement Mahomes in the past. “I’m just so impressed with Pat as a young player,” said Brady when asked what he thinks about the rising star.
Receiving a compliment from the greatest quarterback to play the game boosted Mahomes’ confidence leading up to the game. Mahomes has also shown great respect for Brady. “You’re a legend,” said Mahomes to Brady at the completion of the game. Brady has made it clear that he intends on playing multiple more years making it likely that the two will face off again. As of now, Brady has a slight edge in the career series beating Mahomes three out of the five times they have played.
This is not the first time the two studs have faced each other on a big stage. In the 2019 AFC championship game, Brady and the Patriots won that matchup and went on to win the Superbowl against Los Angeles two weeks later.
