Who is Hatsune Miku?
Coachella is right around the corner, and as one of the biggest music festivals of the year people are naturally excited. The coachella twitter account recently released a schedule on who is performing and when. However, one name in particular seems to bring about confusion from the general attendants rather than excitement. Hatsune Miku has three unique traits about her; She has two teal ponytails, She sings most of her songs in japanese (her native language), and she’s not a real person.
Hatsune Miku is a character in a computer program called VOCALOID. In which people can create music and lyrics the character would sing to. What is really interesting is that the majority of Hatsune Miku’s music is not made by a single creator but instead made by multiple individual creators who all bought the VOCALOID program and made their own songs and posted them online. Some of her more famous songs include Levan Polka, World is Mine, and Pomp and Circumstance.
“Her music is cute and the concept is really cool. it’s a great opportunity for people to get into the music industry,” said senior Andrew Hamilton.
Miku is even known to do live performances, the Vocaloid company would animate a dance and singing sequence for Miku. This animation would then be turned into an actual hologram which would be put on stage for the audience enjoy. An example of one of these performances can be found here.
Hatsune Miku has been known to do tours for a while now. The real question is; will her performance at coachella finally put Hatsune Miku in the minds of people here in the east? Or will she just fall into obscurity. Only time will what will be the fate of Hatsune Miku.
