Submit your work by January 19 for a chance to win.

To celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr, Rochester Community Schools is sponsoring a short essay and poem contest for its students.

This year’s theme will be “the time is always right to do what is right”. There is a maximum of 300 words per submitted piece. The deadline for submission is Wednesday, December 19. Winners will read their entries on January 12 (Martin Luther King Day) at the annual recognition of the this day at Rochester High School.

Aside from essay reading, “We will feature music groups from across the District, inspirational videos – including a rousing recitation of the ‘I Have a Dream Speech’, and the presentation of Peace Poles to all schools in the District that do not presently have a Peace Pole,” said Executive Director of Elementary Education Mr. Michael Behrmann.

Rochester Community Schools is also looking for talented artists to create a design for the program cover. The deadline for this contest will be December 19. All designs must be on 8.5” x 11” plain, white paper, and must include the student’s name, grade, school, parent’s phone, and parent’s email on the back.

All submissions must be sent to either the RCS Administration Center (located at 501 W. University Dr. Rochester MI 48307), or emailed to Mr. Behrmann himself at [email protected].  Entry forms are available on the Adams High School website here at www.rochester.k12.mi.us/pages/214/adams.
