Veterans day is an important American holiday celebrated annually on November 11, highlighting the brave men and women who fought for America’s freedom.  Veterans Day, originally called Armistice day, was made a national holiday in 1938.

Every year,  Adams High School focuses on honoring the local veterans. The community comes together and numerous hours are invested into planning events and respectable acts of appreciation for the veterans within the area.

For the past few years, the Adams PTSA has held a memorable breakfast inviting the student body to bring any friends or relatives that have served in the military. This breakfast took place on Monday, November 12 in the cafeteria during second hour. During the breakfast, the American Sign Language class signed a song to honor the veterans. Students were then invited to talk to the veterans about their service to their country.

“This breakfast is both honorable for the veterans within the community, but is also a great opportunity for students to learn and gain a greater understanding of the dedication and risk these brave men and woman have taken to protect our country,” said senior Emma Curran.

In addition to the breakfast, during second hour, Principal Pasquale Cusumano encouraged students over the intercom to place an American flag outside of the school at the intersection of Adams and Tienken. As a result, students filed out of the school, placing a flag directly next to the road, leaving a beautiful display for passing cars to admire.

“It was really cool to see the school come together to show our gratefulness for the veterans who served for country,” said junior Andrew Shankster.

It is extremely important to show appreciation for these brave men and women who have fought for their country. The Adams PTSA along with the Adams staff and student body did a wonderful job planning the event and emphasizing the veterans honorable acts of patriotism.
