On Tuesday, February 23, golf legend Tiger Woods underwent surgery on his injured right leg after a rollover accident near Los Angeles.

Woods was on his way to participate in a photoshoot when his Genesis GV80 luxury SUV hit the center median causing the car to flip multiple times before landing in the brush. Local police stated that the road Woods was traveling on is known for crashes due to its hills and tight turns. The car traveled over 200 feet indicating that Woods may have been speeding. Woods was taken into surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center immediately after local paramedics and firefighters found him.

Woods suffered from complex comminuted fractures (fractures in more than two places), and open fractures to the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula.

Wood’s injuries were so unstable during his first surgery that he needed to have rods and plates placed in his legs to keep him stable. Trauma to his muscle and soft tissue resulted in a mandatory fasciotomy. Luckily, Woods was wearing a seatbelt and had no evidence that he was impaired by drugs or alcohol.

On Thursday Woods was moved to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to continue recovery procedures. Knowing Woods, he will do everything in his power to make a full recovery and continue playing golf at a high level.

“It’s nerve-racking knowing that Tiger Woods could be done forever and we will never see him play golf again. I pray for a fast and full recovery,” said Kevin Kaczocha, Pro at Brookwood golf course.

Many golfers around the world showed their respect to Woods by wearing his trademark Sunday red for the final round of the WGC-Workday Championship. Professionals including Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Thomas and Cameron Champ represented Woods’ signature outfit. Woods responded on Twitter to the gesture made by many in the golf community.

“It is hard to explain how touching today was when I turned on the tv and saw all the red shirts. To every golfer and every fan, you are truly helping me get through this tough time,” said Tiger Woods.

Woods is not new to making unbelievable comebacks and most people expect that this setback will be no different.
