Art club students decorated a Christmas tree for display

Adams art students deck the halls with creativity this year at Rochester’s Festival of Trees.

The Festival of Trees lacked anything but holiday spirit this year, featuring trees, wreaths, stockings, tablescapes, centerpieces and gingerbread houses decorated by the members of the metro Detroit community, including Adams art students.

For the second year running, the Adams Art Department created a magnificent tree and entered it in this year’s Festival of Trees auction.  The tree was bought by the Pino Insurance Agency. The proceeds from the auction go towards funding the Bright Light Show in downtown Rochester.  The Bright Light Show debuted on November 23, the lights will stay lit until January 3.

“We attended the auction to see the tree auctioned off.  It was a lovely event,” said Mrs. Deborah Bovio, an art teacher at Adams.

The tree was adorned entirely with ornaments made by the students.

“The tree was decorated with ornaments depicting student’s favorite local businesses.  The ornaments were made from either clay or a special plastic drawing medium,” said Bovio.

Art students in draw/paint, ceramics and AP art worked hard to create the one of a kind decorations and to assemble the tree before the auction.

“Students Joe Schram, Nolan Pakizer, Hannah Kade, Nikki Ngatio and Anna Torres worked after school to decorate the tree at the Rochester Community House,” said Bovio.

This festive and creative holiday tradition will continue on in the art department for many years to come.
