Harry and Meghan leave the royal family
Disturbing discussions about how dark their baby’s skin tone would be. A fault between Prince Harry and his father that caused them to stop speaking. And very sad conversations about Meghan’s suicidal thoughts.
These are just a few of the startling topics talked about in the CBS interview with Oprah on March 7th. Shockingly, being the first time Meghan and Harry had given details to the public since they stepped away from their royal duties over a year ago in January 2020.
A surprising concern talked about was the mistreatment the couple received from their royal family. Ties between Harry and his father had been hanging on by a thread and his relationship with his brother, William, was a struggle. Once good relationships had folded due to the harsh environment and severity of the monarchy, Meghan and Harry decided they would speak publicly on the matter.
One of the very eye-opening and controversial subjects discussed was their baby and the possibility of his skin tone being “dark”.
“There were concerns and conversations about how dark his [Archie’s] skin tone might be when he is born,” said Prince Harry, in a disappointed tone.
Prince Harry reveals that these conversations were held in the early stages of his relationship with Meghan. Although he will not disclose which family member made the comments, he later told Oprah that it was not his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, nor his grandfather, Prince Phillip (The Duke of Edinburgh), who were part of the conversation.
Despite all that has happened, the two remain in a great relationship with Queen Elizabeth. Harry happily said, “I have spoken more with my grandmother in the last year than I have done in many, many years.” And Meghan exclaimed that the Queen has always been so kind and amazing to her, and even Facetimes them to see her great-grandson, Archie.
While the whole interview was full of mind blowing details and some major disappointment in the royal party, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shared some light-hearted news at the end. They are expecting a second child this summer and it will be a girl!
