While the  Adams Boys’ Swim and Dive Team had a strong start beating Groves High School 106.5-79.5 on December 18, they were less successful on January 8 when they lost to Seaholm 60-126.

In 2014, the team won the OAA White Division League Championship. Because of the talent and leadership among the participants, the team has been moved up to the  OAA Red League Division for the 2015 season.

The Red League Division has tougher competition and faster times, but with determination, Coach of the Year Tim Hickey, Assistant Coach and National Champion Kayla Scott, and Starting Line Fitness Trainer Chip Warner, the boys are destined for greatness.

This year’s captains include seniors Ben Walling, Vincent Kania, Austin Xu, and Adam Polosky.

“I’m excited for a successful and enjoyable senior year on the swim team,” said Walling.

The first meetings of the season had an impressive turnout, creating a team of 52 swimmers, but as tryouts progressed, many boys quit the team become they could not handle the rigorous training.

“This is my first season with the boys team, but I am impressed so far,” said Warner. “They are using the example set by the girls team with a dedicated work capacity and championship intensity at every training session. They want a banner and are willing to fight for it.”

The team now has 32 swimmers and 6 divers, which is small compared to last year’s 50 participants. Hickey believed the cuts would not be complete in time, and the boys would not be ready to focus on a competition, so the first meet against Troy High School was rescheduled for later in February.

With the team set and harder training in place, the boys are now ready for their meet on January 22 against Bloomfield Hills.

“I know we will do our best in order to bring home each win,” said Kania.
