Adams Ski Team Starts the Season

Adams Ski Team at Pine Knob

With snowy winter weather approaching, the Adams Ski Team is preparing for a great season and is ready to take on the slopes.

The team had its first official practice on November 17, the JV team had its first race on January 6, and the Varsity team had its first race on January 7. The team practices and races at Pine Knob. They are preparing for the upcoming season with dry land and ski practice every week.

Seven Varsity boys (seniors AJ Ferrari, Nick Corsi, Nick Lumsden, and Spencer Shaheen; junior Jeremy Kalvelage; sophomore Matt Corsi; and freshman Josh Cowdrey) placed in the top 50 in the most recent race, along with seven of the Varsity girls (seniors Brittany Land, Jenna Belding, Shelby Rosalik, and Katie Fleming; sophomores Madison Murphy and Emma Ferrari; and freshman Amelia Buckmaster).

“The ski team has never been this strong in the past five years and this is the first time we’re going to have a legitimate chance to get a good shot to go to states,” said team captain Corsi.

Senior Edwin Purcell was on the Junior Varsity team last year and had a great season. However, Purcell suffered from an injury and cannot continue with the ski team this year.

“I literally dreamed about being on varsity. Now because of my injury, I will never know what that will feel like,” said Purcell.

On the other hand, Belding is ecstatic for the start of the season.

“This year most of our team is seniors. We’re all very close. Last year towards the end of the season we were very close, like a family. We would always go up north together all the time. And this year since we’re all seniors, we get to spend our last year together and we’re all really good friends,” said Belding.

The team’s next race is today, January 20, against Clarkston at Pine Knob.
