One of Adams High School’s most anticipated traditions is the annual tri-high Charity Week fundraiser. Charity Week kicks off on March 4 and continues through March 8. This year, the money raised during the week will be donated to the local organization Humble Design.
Humble Design’s main purpose is designing and furnishing homes for individuals and families who are emerging from homelessness. Since 2009, Humble Design has designed over 3,000 homes, transformed over 9,000 lives, and has spent over 22,000 hours working with volunteers to end homelessness. Humble Design has transformed lives, built stronger communities, reduced homelessness, and inspired hope.
“We start the process by researching charities that they’re passionate about, then we go on from there. Then, the council presents two charities at our luncheon with all three schools. Finally, we all come together and vote. I would say we chose Humble Design because we got to see the impact they were making first hand and see how they were making a difference. It’s also a charity that really hasn’t been done before, so that was very impactful for us,” said student council president Lauren Cromie.
Donating money during Charity Week can be done in a number of different ways, the most common being incentives from teachers. Many teachers come up with incentives that can be met if students in the class bring in the set amount of money. Incentives can be anything from movie days in class to a class pizza party.
There are also many other ways to raise money, such as food sales throughout the week. Students can purchase donuts from the Mullins Interact Cafe, soda from Mr. Lindstrom, or pizza from Mr. Lovalvo.
Some of the other opportunities to donate include the Charity Week Dinner and Silent Auction, which is being held on March 1 at Adams High School. The event will have a catered dinner, artisan mocktails, a silent auction, a presentation from Humble Design representatives, and live entertainment from student musicians. Another opportunity to raise money is to buy a ticket for the annual Tri-High Dance, which is being held on March 9. Tickets are on sale during Charity Week outside the cafeteria.
“Senora Ciluffo had a tiered system where students got to sell food. It helped to raise money. That has definitely been one of my favorite incentives,” said senior Selena Cooper.
The incredible work from Humble Design is not possible without the donations and volunteer work from the community. Make sure to bring in money this Charity Week to support Humble Design in their mission to stop homelessness!
