Ariana Grande has been topping the charts in the recent years of her career becoming a huge influence in music. Recently, Grande has received the Billboard Woman of the Year Award.

The award is to acknowledge, “Women in the music industry who have made significant contributions to the business and who, through their work and continued success, inspire generations of women to take on increasing responsibilities within the field,” according to Billboard.

She has had ten songs in the past four years that skyrocketed into the top ten charts worldwide. In 2014 Ariana released, “Problem” with Iggy Azelea, which was an instant hit and soared to number two on the charts. Then within four months, she released another song, collaborating with Nicki Minaj and Jessie J. The collaboration, titled “Bang Bang,” jumped into the number three seat in the top charts. In fact, Grande has had ten songs in the top ten charts in the past five years. With Grande repeatedly topping the charts in North America, it is clear she is more than deserving of this pristine award.

“I think that Ariana Grande deserves the award because all of the good things that she has done to help people and be inspiring,” said sophomore Lance Miracle.

Recently, on November 4, Ariana Grande has released a song called “thank u, next” that was predicted to shoot to number one, and boosted her music career to new heights. Grande mentions her ex-fiance, Pete Davidson, in the song and also mentions her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller who died last month. She goes deep into her past relationships singing lines like, “even almost got married/and to Pete I’m thankful”. This new hit single that is empowering and relatable to most, sparks an additional reason for Grande earning woman of the year.

The previous woman of the year award winners include Beyoncé, Fergie, Taylor Swift, Madonna, and Selena Gomez. Ariana Grande has recently tweeted, “thank u for this honor @billboard”. The award has only been around since 2007 with the first honoree being Reba McEntire. The only artist to win the award twice was Taylor Swift (2011 and 2014).

“I think the fact that there is an award that shows what women have done and achieved, it’s very powerful and inspiring for future generations,” said sophomore Nicole Brabant.

Another groundbreaking movement Grande has been a part of was hosting a charity concert in Manchester, United Kingdom on June 3rd, 2017. The concert was the day after a terror attack in Manchester, and all of the proceeds were donated to charity. The show was named the, “One Love Manchester” concert. With Grande’s generosity, she also offered to cover the funeral cost of twenty two victims of the Manchester bombings in 2017. In addition, Grande also supports many causes like the Cancer Research Institute, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Ariana Grande’s compassion reveals she is the perfect candidate to receive the billboard award.

The Woman of the Year Award is a great honor and encourages celebrities to keep doing positive and impactful things. As this memorable award is a representation of groundbreaking accomplishments, Ariana Grande fits the part perfectly.
